Ok, it’s not October yet, but we’re close, and we’re sure planning ahead.  Come to the Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting on Wednesday, at noon, September 20th at Sugar Shack in Franklinton to hear about all the exciting things that are coming up.  We are excited to have as our September special guests Washington Parish Fair President Jackie Boone, Secretary Faye Ladner, and Building and Grounds Chair Donald Folse.  They will be able to tell you everything you need to know about Washington Parish’s biggest event of the year.

Fall is definitely in the air, at least in the morning and the evenings.  As we look forward to cooler days ahead, we’re also looking forward to:

·       The Fall Decorating Contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.  Our flyer appeared in the Era-Leader today (page B2).  There is also information on the Chamber’s website and Facebook page.  All entries must be in by Friday, October 6th, and judging will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14th.  Encourage your friends and families to decorate their homes and businesses in preparation for the Fair.

·       Saturday, October 7, beginning at 8:00 a.m. there will be a second Battle of the Businesses Softball Tournament, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.  The tournament will be held at the Franklinton Girl’s Softball Field, 200 Boat Ramp Road in Franklinton.  Entry fee is $200 per team.  There will be door prizes, 50/50 drawing, and food.  And, of course, bragging rights for the winners.  Gather your team together and contact Sarah Cook, 985-515-0720, or email scook@wpgov.org to let her know you’re going to participate.

·       October 18 – 21 – the event we eagerly await all year, the Washington Parish Free Fair.  You will not want to miss a single moment, from the time the gates open until they close.  The Fair is not only one of the biggest attractions in the State for visitors, for those of us closer to home, it’s Family Tradition.

If you haven’t visited the Chamber’s webpage or Facebook page recently, please take a look for current information.  Also, if you would “like” and “share” the events that are posted, we can get the word out to more people that might be interested.

See you next Wednesday, September 20th at Sugar Shack!

Yes, it's that time again. Summer is over, the temperature is (finally) cooling and it's FALL Y'ALL! Time to get to the Pumpkin Patch and start designing your awesome Fall displays. We can't wait to see those fall colors and what your creativity can do with them. All the information you need to enter the Fall Decorating Contest is on the flyer. But if you have any questions at all, please give me a call at 985-839-5822. Be sure you let me know if you want your beautiful display on the list so I can be sure the Judges do not miss it!

Congratulations to Chamber of Commerce Treasurer, Sarah Cook, chosen to be in the Member Spotlight of the Police Jury of Louisiana's August newsletter. Sarah was chosen for her "willingness to work hard and go above and beyond what is asked of her." We wholeheartedly agree with that assessment! Please join us in congratulating Sarah on a job well done!

The Franklinton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors honored outgoing Executive Director, Linda E. Crain, at their monthly meeting Wednesday, August 23rd at Sugar Shack.  FCC President Coylean Schloegel presented Linda with a plaque honoring her leadership and dedicated service from 2007-2017, and a gift basket filled with goodies.  Enjoy your retirement Linda, we will miss you!

 Tatiana Begault, American Red Cross

American Red Cross Disaster Program Specialist, Tatiana Begault, spoke at the FCC Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, August 23rd.  Tatiana spoke about preparing your family, especially your children, for hurricanes, floods, storms and any other catastrophe.   Tatiana will offer training in our area soon, and we'll keep you updated on available training and dates.  Stay safe!

                                      COME OUT AND PLAY!

Remember how much fun it was to participate in the Battle of the Businesses Softball Tournament in June?   Well, here’s some great news, you can do it again, and this time when the temperature (may be) below 90o.  Make your plans now for The next Battle, scheduled to begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7th, at the Franklinton Girls’ Softball Field.

If you want to play, but don’t have a full team, contact Sarah.  She can hook you up!

If you don’t want to play on a team, but want to join the fun, come on out and cheer for your favorite team.  There’ll be door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and of course, some really good food.

If you can’t participate, but would like to join your Chamber of Commerce and community in supporting this event, you can:

·       Contribute a door prize   *****       Work a shift in the concession stand   *****       Donate food or cash to buy food

Contact Sarah at the email and telephone number on the flyer, or me at franklintonchamber@franklinton.net to let us know that you’ll be participating in this family friendly, fun event.  See you there!
